Edmonton Oilers

Oilers are really throwing the cash around. Six years $36 million for Jordan Eberle and seven years $42 million for Taylor Hall. No secret these guys believe they are part of something special. I wonder though, what happens if Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Nail Yakupov will command the same money one day? Or even Justin Schultz? Oilers need to focus on getting quality veterans who will show the youngsters the way and to complement them. Oilers cannot tank again and get a fourth consecutive first overall pick.

Hockey Night in Barrie

A great night all around. I was able to get autographs from Corey Perry, WJC goalie Mark Visentin, Doug Gilmour, Steve Downie, Bryan Little and a rising star in Connor McDavid. Best of all, the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre was able to raise over $200 000.

Canada vs. Russia Challenge

Sick move by Ryan Strome to beat Russia in overtime to win the series. Both teams played great throughout. Habs draft pick Charles Hudon was excellent throughout and coach Steve Spott praised Hudon and Montreal management for picking him in the fifth round. Jonathan Huberdeau proved he is a special player with his skills in leadership last night. Goalie Malcolm Subban showed he should’ve been the first goalie picked at the 2012 draft as he far outshone Russian counterpart and (first goalie picked) Andrei Vasilevski. A great series that proved to be fast, exciting and fun, I look forward to the World Juniors in December.

Sidney Crosby

Happy 25th Birthday to the best player in the NHL. What he has accomplished so far is incredible, seems like yesterday I watched him lift the Stanley Cup and score the infamous Golden Goal. As good a player he is, he is a better person off of it. Stay healthy Sid, it’s not the same without you.
